Yes, this is a real condition. The Jurassic Park actor, 72, recalled the strange phenomenon on the latest episode of the Off Menu podcast with comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble.
While experimenting with ‘different diets and regimes’ on a trip many years ago, Jeff ate nothing but the crunchy root vegetable for a number of days, and came out looking like Donald Trump. Not only that, but ‘everything came out’ of the star orange too. ‘I’ve experimented down through the years with different diets and regimes,’ he told the comedians.

Yeah,’ the Kaos star confirmed. Nope, this was not just a fun anecdote for a comedy podcast. But turning orange after consuming too many carrots actually has a medical name:carotenemia.
Not to be confused with jaundice – a serious condition where your skin and the whites of your eyes turn yellow – or indeed a bad fake tan, carotenemia is a harmless, reversible condition. Carotenemia causes orange skin discolouration due to high levels of beta-carotene in the blood, and is often the result of excessive consumption of foods high in the pigment, such as carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes. It is a benign condition requiring no treatment other than a reduction in these foods.
Perhaps Trump’s carrot consumption should be investigated, then, as he has repeatedly denied using any kind of fake tan or bronzing products, insisting his Fanta-face is down to, er, ‘good genes’. com/p/DI29Q-7g3pE/?hl=enElsewhere on the podcast, while denying he’s a ‘foodie’ in the gourmet restaurant-fanatic sense of the word, Jeff’s interest in eating is more scientific. ‘Do I have a life-long interest, fascination, wonderment, relationship with food and an opinion about every ingredient under the sun? Yes,’ he said. ‘I’m still experimenting today with what will do me best with energy and such things.
But I am very adventurous, I think I’ve eaten everything. I will try everything. I’m very easy to please,’ he added.
‘I don’t want to waste my appetite, which is always healthy. But I don’t just want to fill my stomach up. I want it to be special, and entertaining, without being unhealthy.
