Bachelor Nation host Jesse Palmer has shared insight into why Mel Owens has been crowned the next Golden Bachelor . On Tuesday, Disney announced at Hulu's inaugural Get Real House event that the hit spin-off has been renewed for Season 2 on ABC and Hulu, with Owens, a 66-year-old retired NFL player and attorney, helming it. According to a press release, Owens is a Detroit native from a "close-knit Midwestern family" and attended the University of Michigan before he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams as the ninth pick in the 1981 NFL Draft.

I think while he’s had a lot of success professionally, there have been some hills and valleys in his personal life.
” The press release added that after his career in football ended, Owens moved to Orange County, California , where he pursued a career in law, representing clients in sports-related injuries. Owens shares two sons with his first wife, as the release revealed, "While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams." The names of Owens' ex-wife and sons have not yet been publicly disclosed, nor have the circumstances of his father’s death, but more about the leading man will likely be revealed in the coming weeks.

He revealed he spent personal time with Owens and his sons earlier this week, telling the outlet, “I had a chance to visit with him and his kids yesterday, and it’s really a unique and special bond to watch. "I think he’s in this unique time now where he can finally focus a little bit more on it himself. His kids are getting ready to go off to college, and I think he really wants to find a special person.
” Palmer also gave insight into what Owens is hoping to get out of his love journey: “I don’t think he’s necessarily looking for anything heavily extravagant. When you talk with him, what he misses most about being married and being in a relationship it’s just having and enjoying those simple everyday moments." "He’s just looking for companionship.
It’s just really pure and just listening to him talk about it is really moving. So I think he’s going to be a great lead. I think he’s a great choice to be our next Golden Bachelor.

A premiere date for the upcoming Season 2 of the hit show will be announced at a later date. Gerry Turner was announced as the first Golden Bachelor in July 2023, leading the inaugural season of the show centered around love stories for "the golden years.
" The season concluded with Turner proposing to contestant Theresa Nist during the finale of which aired Nov. 30, 2023. The couple later tied the knot during a televised wedding in early January 2024, but things hit rock bottom when they announced their divorce in April 2024.
