FARGO — The winter was mild. The spring, so far, has been largely dry and warmer than average. However, the weather has been somewhat disappointing of late.

The warmest part of March, relative to average, was the early part. April has been colder than average to date. Last week brought a snowstorm.

Nevertheless, spring will be here soon. Leaves are appearing on trees all all across Iowa and southern South Dakota, and will likely be doing so here in the next week or so, which is about average.Tulips and daffodils are already beginning to appear in sunny spots, and soon there will be more.

Lawns, presently brown with frost still in the ground, will soon begin to green as the sun warms the soil to around 50 degrees. Crabapple trees in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota typically bloom around the first week of May, and there is no reason to suspect they would be late this year. Daily weather will do what it does, but spring will not be stopped!]]>.
