Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is hoping that his predecessor doesn't walk off into the sunset just yet.Aaron Rodgers, who played the last two seasons with the New York Jets after 18 seasons in Green Bay, still hasn't made a decision on whether he will play next season, despite making an appearance on one of ESPN's most popular programs Thursday.Rodgers, 41, said on the "Pat McAfee Show" that he's spoken to several coaches of teams who have quarterback vacancies but he is not ready to commit because his personal life needs his full attention.
People in Rodgers' "inner circle" are going through "difficult stuff," he said. Love, 26, is entering year three as the Packers' starting quarterback after backing up Rodgers his first three seasons. Love appeared Thursday on "Up & Adams" with host Kay Adams shortly after Rodgers appeared on "McAfee.
" Adams speculated that Rodgers' choices are down to two teams — the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings front office have signaled that they plan to move forward with their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, J.J.
McCarthy, but didn't totally close the door. While the Steelers have two quarterbacks on their roster, Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, but recently departed from Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and have not made a starting quarterback decision.Rodgers said Thursday he traveled to Pittsburgh and visited the team facility but told the front office, "If you need to do something, by all means [do it]," with the 2025 NFL draft set to get underway in a week in Green Bay.
The Vikings are scheduled to play the Packers twice as division foes, while the Steelers also play the Packers, with many wondering if that game will be held in Ireland. "You play the Vikings and the Steelers this season, so if your old friend Aaron Rodgers stays in the National Football League, you will play him potentially. How you do feel about that?" Adams asked Love.
"We'll have to see. I mean, who knows what team he's gonna end up on right now," Love said. "I would definitely love to play A-Rod.
...
That would be cool, you know obviously, started my career with him being a backup to now playing against him, that would definitely be a pretty cool experience."We'll see where he ends up, I know there's a lot of question marks around that."After all, Rodgers may call it quits and move on to a new chapter in his life.
He certainly won't be playing for the Jets again as he says the relationship ended on bad terms. If he retires, he's definitely a first-ballot hall of famer and considered one of the greatest quarterbacks ever."Jordan, what if he doesn't play anymore? What if this is it?" Adams asked Love.
"I hope that's not the case, watching that man play, I definitely think he's got some more years in the tank," Love said. "..
. That was my mentor coming into the league, so I would hate to see him go out. But, he's had a phenomenal, phenomenal career, definitely a hall of famer.
...
I don't think he's ready to end it though, we'll see." Adams joked that Love just wants to compete against him before it's too late, to which Love responded, "I want to beat everybody."This article originally appeared on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Jordan Love on a potential Aaron Rodgers retirement.
