Kanika Dhillon shared fresh updates about the revenge drama while also revealing how the idea of the film came to fruition. Screenwriter-turned-producer Kanika Dhillon is all set to launch her next project, Gandhari. The film marks her collaboration with Taapsee Pannu after the Haseen Dillruba franchise and Manmarziyaan.

Ahead of its release date announcement, Kanika recently shared fresh updates about the revenge drama while also revealing how the idea of the film came to fruition. The writer-producer also talked about how Taapsee came on board for her much-anticipated project. Talking to Hindustan Times, Kanika Dhillon reflected on the genesis of the film, revealing that it is based on a mother-child relationship.

She said, “This is about a different sort of fear, or rather fierceness as a human being. To what extent can a mother go to protect her child? That idea is where Gandhari started. Action is something that I think is a very exciting genre.

I’ve not done something like that before. So all these things came together." Ahead in the conversation, Kanika continued to share how things panned out between her and Taapsee when it came to collaborating for the film.

The writer-producer added, “She was also in the right frame of mind that she wanted to do an action film. So, it just kind of happened at the right time. Also, as people and as artists, I think we were ready for it to kind of delve into something as emotional and as driven as the story we have here.

" Gandhari, a revenge drama, is directed by Devashish Makhija. It is the film’s setting that makes it different from others in its genre. Sharing fresh updates about the film, the writer-producer mentioned that Gandhari is rooted in its cultural bearing and has a unique story with fierce emotions.

She stressed that every mother-child relationship is different which is why the emotion in her upcoming film is universal but unmatchable. Apart from Taapsee Pannu, Gandhari will also star Ishwak Singh in a key role. The film will be released on Netflix later this year.

The team of the film wrapped the filming schedule last month, as the actress shared on Instagram via intriguing photos. Taapsee was last seen in Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba, which premiered on Netflix in August 2024. The sequel to the 2021 thriller Haseen Dilruba also stars Sunny Kaushal and Vikrant Massey in lead roles.
