Bengaluru: The Karnataka govt has begun preparations to identify and deport Pakistani nationals residing in the state, following an advisory from the Centre, home minister G Parameshwara said Saturday. "The Union ministry of home Affairs (MHA) has advised all states to deport Pakistani nationals residing in India. We have directed all superintendents of police and senior officers to compile a list of such individuals," Parameshwara said, adding that those holding permanent visas will be exempt from deportation.
"Based on the MHA advisory, we have sensitised SPs of all districts and senior police officials to identify Pakistanis and ask them to leave immediately." He clarified that the advisory does not provide exemptions for student visas. "As there is no exception for the students, we will send Pakistani students if any are studying here.
We will follow the MEA's advisory and take action accordingly," he said. "For those on tourist visas and certain other categories of visas, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that they are sent back," he added. Asked about the number of Pakistani nationals currently residing in Karnataka, Parameshwara said, "I do not know the exact number, but authorities are tracking them in every district.
The SPs have been briefed, and steps are also being taken in Bengaluru. Students from Pakistan will also be sent back, as the central govt has not provided any exemption for them." Parameshwara said Karnataka remains on high alert.
"We have been alert since the incident happened. It is not only in the state, but the alert is nationwide," he said..
