Lecturers at Kaduna State University (KASU), under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have warned of an impending strike over unresolved issues with the state government. In a statement on Thursday, ASUU-KASU Chairman Peter Adamu revealed that the union may resume industrial action due to what he described as the government’s failure to uphold previous agreements. He noted that ASUU had initially embarked on an indefinite strike on February 18, 2025, but suspended it after six days based on assurances from the government.

Adamu accused the administration of Governor Uba Sani of cancelling two scheduled meetings with the union, raising doubts about its commitment to resolving the lingering concerns. He listed several outstanding issues, including unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, unpaid allowances for SIWES supervision, earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, pension contributions, group life insurance, death benefits, wage awards, and pending salary adjustments. The union is also demanding full financial autonomy for the institution.

According to Adamu, the government has reverted to its “default settings,” forcing ASUU to consider resuming the strike. He emphasized that the union had been flexible in its negotiations, but the government’s lack of follow-through is eroding trust. He urged Governor Sani and relevant stakeholders to step in and address the lecturers’ grievances, warning that another strike could further destabilize the university’s already fragile academic environment.
