The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has rejected recent reports alleging that residents of Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states receive only two hours of electricity per day.The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala, made this known during the week, describing the claims as misleading and inconsistent with actual energy distribution data.According to Bala, records from the past five days show that KEDCO has been allocated between 3.

9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and 4.7 GWh of electricity daily. He pointed out that this volume of power would be impossible if customers were truly receiving only two hours of supply, which would equate to around 0.

4 to 0.56 GWh each day.He clarified that recent fluctuations in electricity supply are the result of critical upgrades currently being implemented across KEDCO’s power infrastructure.

These upgrades, he said, are aimed at improving service delivery to customers in bands B, C, and D.Despite the ongoing maintenance works, Bala stated that KEDCO has prioritised uninterrupted service to essential facilities, including hospitals, water treatment plants, and key commercial centres. He noted that the positive effects of these infrastructure projects are already becoming evident, with many customers beginning to enjoy more consistent and higher quality electricity supply.

In support of his comments, Bala cited performance statistics, revealing that customers received an average of 14.44 hours of power daily throughout March 2025, and 9.40 hours between 1 and 17 April.

He assured the public that the ongoing investments would lead to long-term improvements in power availability and reliability across the distribution network.Bala encouraged customers to promptly report any irregularities in their electricity service using KEDCO’s official customer support channels, pledging that all concerns would be addressed in a timely manner. He reaffirmed the company’s focus on improving the fairness and consistency of electricity distribution throughout Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa.

According to Bala, KEDCO remains committed to strengthening its infrastructure, cutting down on energy losses, and responding to the region’s rising electricity demand. The post KEDCO refutes claims of two-hour daily power supply in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa appeared first on Nigerian NewsDirect..
