The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a weather outlook for portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia. The forecast for Knoxville today is mostly sunny skies with a high near 58, and calm north winds around 5 mph. For tonight, expect mostly clear conditions with temperatures dipping to around 36 degrees and north wind becoming calm in the evening, according to the NWS update.
Looking ahead to Sunday, areas of frost are anticipated before 8:00 a.m., while the conditions should clear up to a sunny high near 68 with calm winds shifting southwest.
Sunday night forecasts predict continued clear skies, with a low around 52 degrees, and southwest winds sustaining around 5 mph. Additionally, Monday is expected to be sunny with a significant temperature increase, a high near 80 degrees, and southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, gusts potentially surging as high as 30 mph.The weather outlook becomes more unsettled starting Monday night.
There is a 50 percent chance of showers after 2:00 a.m., with a cloudier sky and a low around 52 degrees.
Tuesday's forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers before 8:00 a.m., but will clear up to mostly sunny conditions and a high near 64, the NWS indicates gusty west winds 5 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph.
Midweek weather promises clearer skies, as Wednesday is expected to be sunny with a high near 66, leading into a partly cloudy night with a low around 43. Thursday shows continued mostly sunny weather with temperatures rising to a high near 74, though Thursday night brings back a 30 percent chance of showers, according to the weather outlook. Friday's forecast repeats the 30 percent chance of showers, with overall mostly sunny conditions and a high near 78.
In addition to the detailed forecast, Knoxville residents should be aware of the Hazardous Weather Outlook that alerts for patchy frost early today and again on Sunday morning. The NWS advises taking precautionary measures to protect vulnerable vegetation from the expected conditions. For spotters, there is currently no action required.
