Lady Mayoress wants City recruits for military reserves By RICHARD MARSDEN Updated: 15:45 EDT, 26 April 2025 e-mail View comments The Lady Mayoress of the City of London is on manoeuvres to find new recruits from the Square Mile for the military reserves. Florence King, 36, whose financier husband Alastair, 56, is the City's 696th Lord Mayor, is herself a reservist. As a Lance Bombardier in the Royal Artillery, she says City workers with skills in analysis, cyber security and data handling are ideal for the military in the complexity of modern warfare.
City firms would also gain as staff improve resilience, and problem solving and leadership skills. Lady Florence, who like other reservists completed training at weekends and on courses lasting several weeks, says that in the past monarchs turned to the City for money to fight wars. Bold as brass: Florence King, Lady Mayoress of the City.

This is reliant on recruiting reservists that can bring their knowledge and training from their civvy jobs to the fight.' Married to Alastair last year, she is the sister-in-law of Pointless host Alexander Armstrong and of TV presenter Giles Coren. Her husband added: 'For those lucky enough to have reservists in your business, do whatever you can to allow them to stay serving.
