Lafayette has hired two in-house attorneys to keep up with the city’s growing legal needs, according to a news release. City officials previously contracted for private attorney service to provide legal counsel for the city government. “Having an in-house attorney enables the city to respond more quickly and proactively to the complex legal challenges of a growing municipality,” City Manager Kady Doelling said in the news release.

Mary Lynn Macsalka has been named as the city’s in-house attorney, and she had been working to provide legal counsel to the city for several years as a private attorney. As city attorney, Macsalka will bring her 17 years of experience with municipal law to oversee the city government’s legal affairs, as well as providing counsel to the Lafayette City Council, the city manager and city staff. The city has also hired as deputy city attorney Erin Poe, who previously worked to provide legal counsel to the city of Boulder.

As deputy city attorney, Poe will provide legal advice to the council, boards and commissions, and city departments. ..
