Cole Donaldson is in a good place with baseball. “I think this is the best group of guys I’ve ever played with,” the senior catcher said after he drove in three runs and reached base three times in first-place Lakeview’s 10-8 Macomb Area Conference Blue Division victory over Fraser on Wednesday. “I think this is the most connected we’ve felt through our high school careers.
We’ve definitely got a chance (to win the Blue championship.) It’s coming together now. We’ve just got to peak at the right time and keep going.
” Donaldson hit a two-run single in the second inning, and he reached base in the fourth and sixth, giving way both times to a courtesy runner who wound up scoring as the first-place Huskies steadied themselves and eventually won despite losing an 8-0 lead. “I think it was the team,” Donaldson said when asked how the Huskies kept their composure after Fraser tied the game with an eight-run fourth. “None of us hung our heads.
We all knew we were still in it. It was a tie game. Everyone picked each other up.
No one was yelling at each other.” Lakeview improved to 10-1 in the division after winning for the second time in as many games against Fraser this week. The defending division-champion Huskies were to host the Ramblers on Thursday.
“We’ve got 10 seniors. They’ve been in these situations the last few years,” Lakeview coach Scott Kuhle said. “These guys know it’s going to be a battle every series.
