The National Weather Service in Las Vegas reports a slight cooldown today with lighter winds compared to yesterday. Looking ahead, "gusty southwesterly winds will pick up across the region tomorrow as a low pressure system approaches the West Coast." This system will move through the Desert Southwest over the weekend, bringing cooler-than-normal temperatures, thicker cloud cover, and "elevated winds, and increased chances for isolated showers.
" Wind gusts are expected to peak between 20 to 30 mph across parts of California, Nevada, and Arizona, according to the National Weather Service. From Friday through the following Wednesday, a weather system will bring changes to the region. "A large and fairly deep trough will approach the West Coast on Friday spreading high clouds and gusty southwest winds across the region in advance.
" As the system moves inland, temperatures will fall 5 to 10 degrees below normal, and scattered showers are possible, especially north of Interstate 40. Cooler weather will continue into Monday. Then, "high pressure ridging will gradually build across the region with temperatures returning to above normal levels by midweek and beyond," as reported by the National Weather Service.
"Southwest gusts between 15 and 20 kts will continue over the next couple of hours before briefly subsiding through the remainder of the morning," with stronger winds expected to return in the afternoon and continue through the day across southern Nevada, parts of California, and Arizona. The National Weather Service has asked local spotters to "report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures" to support weather monitoring. A short break in the winds is expected during the night.
