LAHORE - To promote commerce education and IT sector, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has announced a series of initiatives to uplift the Govt Graduate College of Commerce in Hunza Block, Iqbal Town, Lahore. The announcements were made during the college’s Annual Prize Distribution and Convocation ceremony, which saw the participation of prominent business leaders and educationists. LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the chamber’s commitment to promoting commerce education.
“We believe that commerce education plays a vital role in equipping our youth with the skills required to compete in the global market,” he said. To support this cause, he announced the installation of a 15 kW solar system for the college. The event also saw Member SAARC Chamber and former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Khawaja Shahzeb Akram, pledge Rs1 million to purchase new computers for the college’s computer lab.
This is not the first time Akram has supported the college; last year, he donated Rs1 million for the purchase of new computers and renovation of college rooms. Strike by goods transporters in Karachi leads to significant delays in shipments Vice President LCCI Shahid Nazir also made a significant contribution, donating Rs200,000 for the repair and maintenance of the college. “We are committed to supporting educational institutions that are shaping the future of our country,” he said.
Member Provincial Assembly Malik Khalid Khokhar, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the Punjab government’s focus on promoting IT education in the province. “Our Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is particularly keen on promoting IT education, and we are allocating significant funds for the uplift of schools and colleges,” he said. The ceremony also saw the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners of various events, with Principal Yaqoob Elahie Sheikh briefing the chief guests on the college’s performance and achievements during the last academic year.
The LCCI’s initiative is a welcome move for the education sector, highlighting the private sector’s role in supporting public institutions. The college, which offers courses such as, BS Computer Science, BBA ADP Commerce and D. Com at very low fees, is poised to benefit significantly from these donations.
