YOUNG writers have less than a week to submit their entries to a new JEP competition launched in conjunction with the Jersey Festival of Words. Islanders in school years 5 to 11 are being invited to pen the first chapter of a thriller story in “The Opening Chapter – Thriller”, for the chance to win a cash prize. Each writer must submit a maximum of 300 words by Wednesday 30 April.
The winner’s work in each age category will be published in the JEP during the literary festival, which is taking place from 19 to 28 September. Adult writers, no need to fret. The regular poetry and short-story contest will run separately from next month to July, as per previous years.
Details for which will be announced nearer the time. The Jersey Festival of Words, now in its tenth year, is once again being sponsored by Oakglen Wealth. You can find out more about the event via: jerseyfestivalofwords.
org COMPETITION RULES AND ADVICE There is a 300-word limit with prizes for the top three entries in each age bracket: Entries for “The Opening Chapter – Thriller” writing competition must be submitted as an attachment to an email to [email protected] by midnight on 30 April . Competition entrants must be born or resident in Jersey and their work must not have been previously published in any public form, print or digital, or have won a prize in any other competition.
No more than two entries per person in any one category. Judges are looking for strong original work, with any use of language generative AI strongly discouraged.
