He is no longer just chasing balls, but criminals, too. The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is celebrating the graduation of Police Service Dog (PSD) Brandon. The nearly two-year-old Belgian Malinois was born in Spain and later brought to the Alabama Canine Law Enforcement Training Centre.
Brandon was acquired by LPS in November 2024. “Brandon began his rigorous training program alongside Cst. Terry Fieguth on January 6, 2025,” says LPS.
“While the training usually takes 20 weeks to complete, the duo was able to finish in 14 weeks.” Fieguth is an experienced K9 handler. His previous partner, PSD Zap, retired back in November.
PSD Brandon and Cst. Fieguth have spent the last few months developing skills in tracking, obedience, agility, building searches, compound/area searches, evidence searches and criminal apprehension. The dog will continue to train in drug detection.
PSD Brandon is the 34th K9 employed by LPS, a program that has been ongoing since 1964..
