DETROIT LAKES — As I write this, it is following a Good Friday service, where Christians across the world remember the death of the innocent Jesus at the hands of the Roman Empire. Pontius Pilate washed his hands of that innocent blood, but allowed the crucifixion to take place. The Temple authorities remained silent.
In war torn Sudan, children are dying of starvation in huge numbers because the United States has cut off aid to soup kitchens in the nation's capital, Khartoum. ADVERTISEMENT USAID has been providing food to the starving victims of the brutal civil war there and the USAID funds, distributed through the United Nations, was the only thing keeping the children and their families alive. The U.
S. says that aid is still flowing, but it is not. Reporters on the scene found that no aid had flowed to Khartoum since the Trump Administration cut funding to USAID and fired most of its aid workers.
And in Congress our representatives, Michelle Fischbach and Pete Stauber, remain silent in the face of these deaths. In Gaza, the only hospital left operating in the devastated home to two million people was again bombed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). My contact there with the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, who supports the hospital, said "come hell or high water" we will keep our hospital open.
The hospital has been bombed on three separate occasions, some of its doctors and nurses killed, and yet these brave souls continue to care for the victims of the catastrophic bombing of civilians by Israel. The US government remains silent as more than 50,000 Palestinians, more than half of them women and children, have been killed. And in Congress our Representatives Fischbach and Stauber remain silent.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated in a number of his sermons and other writings that those who keep silent in the face of evil are as complicit in that evil as those perpetrating the evil.
We citizens must speak up against the evil being done in our name, or blood will be on our hands. And we must call on our representatives in Congress to do so as well..

Letter: Children are starving to death because we Americans cut off their food

Those who keep silent in the face of evil are as complicit in that evil as those perpetrating the evil. We citizens must speak up against the evil being done in our name.
