Health system boost I am puzzled by the Government ’s big announcement of a long-term $20 billion boost to health spending. It sounds really good – until you look at the details. With so much of our target="_self" rel="" title="https://www.
nzherald.co.nz/topic/public-healthcare/">public health infrastructure needing serious upgrading and repair, there’s even bold talk of a new approach.
But what the Government is hoping is that the private sector will actually cover most of this new infrastructure price tag. This isn’t really new government spending on healthcare at all, but more private-public sell-off. Private investors will require a decent return on their big investment.
So how does a public healthcare facility provide that? Well, the plan is for 11 projects to substantially expand hospital car parking spaces, no doubt providing decent profits from hefty privatised parking charges. You may well find more hospital car spaces available but it’s going to cost you to fund these private investors..
