We need leaders willing to remove tyrants from office This week, our Representative in Congress, Joe Neguse, did not directly respond to questions about whether he supports impeaching President Donald Trump. I’m disappointed because I believe the Assistant Democratic Leader in the House should be leading from the front on this issue. As we watch the entire global economy swing wildly on each of the President’s tweets, the risk to our country could not be more clear.
President Trump is leading the country into authoritarianism. What many thought was hyperbole has become reality, including dismantling the government, extorting political opponents, and sending people to foreign prisons without charges or trial. He and his cabinet are lawless, unaccountable to our justice system, and have committed a multitude of crimes.
The only remedy to this danger is to remove him from office. If we don’t impeach him now, we may not have the opportunity again. His threats to remain in office at the end of his term are credible.
This is not a risk that we, the American people, are willing to take. I am encouraging Representative Neguse to publicly commit to carrying out his most sacred democratic role: removing tyrants from office. Commitment to these basic facts — that Donald Trump is a tyrant and Congress must act now to get him out of the White House — will be a major litmus test for any 2026 candidate.
I hope that we get a good response from him on this critical issue soon. David Pomeroy, Louisville EVs for emergency vehicles a terrible brain fart The purchase of an all-electric fire truck has to be amongst the least forward-thinking purchases in the last 100 years. Fire departments stand by in readiness to help in all kinds of disasters, like The Marshall Maelstrom.
Disasters don’t give a rip about your “charge level” or the environment. When the truck dies so would humans. Who is making these decisions? Tim Walker, Lafayette Time for Boulder to mandate electric leaf blowers This is about gas-powered leaf blowers and a prominent landscaping company in Boulder.
We carefully landscaped our yard years ago to enjoy eating and being outdoors in spring and summer. These last years the joy of being in the yard has been marred by leaf blowers and power mowers producing not only fumes but loud noise making even conversations outdoors impossible. Today at 8:30 a.
m. I walked across the garden to our garage on the alley navigating both the noise and the health-defying fumes from our neighbor’s yard. Not 10 hours later, at 5:50 p.
m. as we at down to dinner, the same company invaded our space again using their leaf blower in the same yard! It reminded me of yet another summer ahead trying to live around these machines that make our home and garden unlivable on a regular basis any time of the day. Recently there were three unprotected workers, each with a leaf blower leaving us with deafening noise, visible fumes inside our house and leaves blown in our yard from neighboring leaf blowers.
ENOUGH. I dread yet another spring and summer with wealthy landscape companies blowing leaves and smut into our yard and lungs, disturbing our peace. The city refuses to mandate electric blowers due to the cost burden but it is time to mandate change for the health of residents, workers and the quality of life on the planet.
Fran Sheets, Boulder ‘The march heard round the world’ Over 5 million people participated in nationwide protests on April 5. Another one is planned for April 19. That is a red-letter day in American history.
Two hundred and fifty years ago on April 19, 1775, the American Revolution began with “the shot heard round the world.” The night before was Paul Revere’s famous ride. The next day American Freedom Fighters delivered a humiliating loss to the British soldiers representing an authoritarian monarch.
On April 19, 2025, modern-day supporters of freedom will create “the march heard round the world” and humiliate another authoritarian. Peter Lilienthal, Boulder.
