What's the Theme This Year?
This year's Met Gala theme is tied to the Costume Institute's latest exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. It draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The dress code, "Tailored for You," reflects the exhibition's focus on suits and menswear, making this the first Met Gala in over 20 years to focus entirely on male fashion. Committee member Usher said the theme celebrates a rich culture that deserves recognition, with nods to Black style across the centuries.
Who's Hosting?
In addition to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the 2025 co-chairs include Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and LeBron James. The host committee features many Black stars across entertainment, including gymnast Simone Biles, director Spike Lee, actress Ayo Edebiri, musicians Doechii, Tyla, Usher, Janelle Monáe, André 3000, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and playwright Jeremy O. Harris.
When is the Met Gala Happening?
As always, the event falls on the first Monday in May—this year on May 5th. Celebrities will begin arriving around 6:00 p.m. EST (11:00 p.m. BST). While the gala itself is private, guests enjoy an exclusive dinner, live music, and a tour of the Costume Institute's exhibit. The red carpet, however, will be heavily covered by the media.

If you're not one of the lucky few attending in person, you can catch all the red-carpet glam online. Vogue will stream the event on its digital platforms, including YouTube. Can You Get a Ticket?
Unfortunately, the Met Gala is invite-only and limited to about 450 guests. Major fashion brands typically buy tables and invite celebrities to wear their designs. Individual tickets reportedly cost around $75,000 (£56,000), while a full table runs about $350,000. All proceeds go to the Costume Institute, making it both a glamorous and charitable affair.
