LG CNS is making significant strides to expand its smart city business in the United States, recently securing contracts to develop smart city infrastructure in New York City and Hogansville, Georgia, marking its entry into the U.S. public market.
The company has signed a pilot project contract with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and an integrated control system. The project focuses on building EV charging infrastructure within the Brooklyn Army Terminal industrial complex and managing it through a real-time integrated system. Through this initiative, New York City aims to expand its green transportation infrastructure as part of its Green Economy Action Plan.
LG CNS will develop and operate an app that offers various features, including EV charging station reservations, real-time charging status updates, and vacant spot notifications. The integrated control system will utilize LG CNS’s proprietary smart city platform, "Cityhub Building," enabling one-stop control for equipment management, energy monitoring, and digital signage operation. Future plans include the supply of Level 3 fast chargers and energy storage systems (ESS).
Additionally, LG CNS has contracted with Hogansville, Georgia, to implement smart streetlights and a comprehensive control system. This project will involve installing smart poles in key areas and parks throughout the city, integrated with a control system. The smart poles will not only manage lighting but also include AI-enabled CCTV, public Wi-Fi, and environmental sensors to facilitate traffic flow management and urban safety monitoring.
LG CNS plans to enhance public safety and convenience by integrating features such as EV chargers, digital signage, and emergency call buttons. The emergency call buttons will connect directly to emergency services like the police, with the control system operated on the same "Cityhub Building" platform as New York’s project. LG CNS aims to use this initiative as a stepping stone to expand its operations to nearby areas such as LaGrange and West Point in Georgia.
“Winning these projects in New York and Georgia signifies that LG CNS's digital transformation capabilities are being recognized in the U.S. public market," said Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS.
"We aim to contribute to the expansion of eco-friendly smart city infrastructure in the U.S. and take the lead in building sustainable future cities.
