The Union is encouraging all journalists and members of the PUL to obtain their items in advance and participate in the day’s events.Monrovia – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has announced that this year’s observance of World Press Freedom Day will take place on Saturday, May 3, under the theme: “Sustaining Independent Journalism and Press Freedom in the Digital Age.”In a media circular issued Tuesday, the Union disclosed that preparations are in full gear, with commemorative T-shirts and caps already available for purchase and collection at the PUL Headquarters on Clay Street, Monrovia.
T-shirts are being sold for USD 5 or the equivalent in Liberian dollars, while caps are priced at LRD 500.The Union is encouraging all journalists and members of the PUL to obtain their items in advance and participate in the day’s events. For those outside Montserrado County, T-shirts and caps can be acquired through designated PUL representatives in the respective counties.
According to the circular, this year’s celebration will begin with a parade from the PUL Headquarters to the Monrovia City Hall, featuring journalists, Union members, and invited guests. An indoor program will follow at City Hall, where a panel of experts will discuss the theme’s relevance in Liberia’s current media landscape. The day will conclude with a series of sporting activities at the Saye Town sports pitch.
