Khalid Usman (6-69) and Luke Procter (3-58) combined to bowl out the hosts for 185 but Rainhill's prospects of a win evaporated as their reply collapsed from 138-4 to 176 all out. Rainford had a tough day at champions Ormskirk with the home side piling on 267-3 before the visitors were dismissed for 133 with Jason Login's (66) the only highlight. Newton le Willows escaped from Wigan with a draw after the hosts reached 232 all out.
Hamish McKenzie took 6-68 before the batters dug in to close on 183-7 with skipper Ben Walkden's 75 proving crucial. Sutton began life in Division One with a big win over Old Xaverians with Andy Cowley (6-45) and Ben Scott (3-15) bundling out the visitors for 84 before the home side completed a nine wicket victory. Newly-promoted Prescot and Odyssey started their Division Two campaign with a three wicket win over Southport Trinity.
Ali Zubairi claimed 5-30 as Trinity were bowled out for 99 to set up the victory. St Helens Town played out a thrilling draw with Whitefield after the visitors posted 185 all out with William Griffiths (4-57) and Craig Woods (3-12) the pick of the bowlers. Both teams got close to the win but Town finished on 175-9.
