Members of the public had spotted the stricken animal on the sands but refrained from trying to pull the animal out themselves. Instead they contacted Holyhead Coastguard (CG) who alerted Bay Search and Rescue (BSAR). Utilising their local knowledge, BSAR contacted local farmer Peter Wilson as the sheep was located not far from his land.
A spokesperson for BSAR said: "We weren’t needed, because we’re not the only experts at Quicksand Rescue on the Bay. "When you farm around the bay, from time to time you need to go the extra mile, because that’s what farmers do for their livestock. "BSAR were alerted to this stricken animal by Holyhead Coastguard and whilst the CG themselves don’t deal with Large Animal Rescue they know teams that do and we know farmers that do too.
" Peter was already en route to the rescue when he got the call from BSAR. The sheep is now back with her lambs (Image: Bay Search and Rescue) A spokesperson added: "Farming is a tough life full of highs and lows but thanks to Peter, the mother is back with her children and the world is ok again, at least for her, but it looks like Peter may need to turn the parlour hose on himself. "Great work Peter.
Support British Farming." BSAR has urged the public, if they see anyone who looks like they are in trouble around the coastline, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Trained teams will then come to help.
