Pune: The state continued to reel under intense heat as temperatures soared in various locations on Thursday. Lohegaon hit its season's highest at 43.1°C, while Akola recorded the highest temperature in Maharashtra at a searing 44.

1°C, marking it as one of the hottest spots in India. The mercury showed a considerable uptick compared to Wednesday, when Akola had recorded 43.4°C; on the same day, Lohegaon had recorded 43°C.

Residents felt the effects of the skyrocketing temperatures. Local shopkeeper Rajesh Jadhav said, "The heat is unbearable. I've lived in Lohegaon for 25 years, but this summer feels particularly intense.

Business has slowed down as people prefer staying indoors during peak afternoon hours." Meanwhile, Shivajinagar recorded 40.3°C on Thursday, compared to 41.

2°C on Wednesday. However, the marginal drop offered little relief. "I've stopped all outdoor activities during late morning and afternoon hours.

I get out in the evenings instead. But it's no better at home either. Even with fans running at full speed, the house feels like an oven by noon," said Meena Desai, a working professional from the area.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed several districts — including Pune, Satara, Solapur, Parbhani, Jalgaon, Beed, and Ahmednagar — on yellow alert for hot and humid conditions over the next few days. "The current hot weather conditions are primarily due to temperature advection from northwestern India," explained an IMD official, adding, "We're seeing temperature departure of 1-3° above normal across multiple stations during the day, while the situation is more severe in Lohegaon, where the day temperature is over 5° above normal." Health officials have advised residents to limit outdoor activities between 11am and 4pm, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

On Thursday, Bikaner in Rajasthan topped the national chart recording a high of 45.1°C. In Maharashtra, Solapur registered a scorching 42.

8°C (up from 42.2°C on Wednesday), while Malegaon recorded 42.2°C, both showing temperature departures of 2° above normal.

In Marathwada region, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 42.4°C, while Parbhani reached 42.1°C, both experiencing significant temperature departures from normal for mid-April.
