Roosters five-eighth Sandon Smith could be facing a sideline stint after copping a sin bin for a swinging high shot on Dragons half Lachlan Ilias. Smith was the best player on the field in the first half of the Anzac Day clash between the two rivals, but not long into the second forty, he was directed to sit for ten minutes. The incident wasn’t picked up when it happened but a minute or so later when there was a stoppage in play.

Referee Todd Smith gave Smith his marching orders, labelling the tackle as “direct contact with moderate force”. Fox League’s Greg Alexander agreed with the decision to send Smith to the bin. “(Ilias) just drops his head fractionally and that’s enough,” Alexander said.
“In slow motion it looks terrible but it happens in a split second. “I have no problem with (the decision) as there’s force in it.” When Smith returned to the game, his stellar play continued, setting up a try for James Tedesco with a skilful grubber kick while being tackled.
