Lopez-led First Gen Corp. (FGen) has teamed up with a Japanese manufacturing firm to supply 100 percent clean energy to its facilities in Zambales. In a statement released on Thursday, April 24, Sanyo Denki Philippines, Inc.
, a subsidiary of Sanyo Denki Co. Ltd., announced its partnership with FGen for the provision of 5,500 kilowatts (kW) of electricity to power its manufacturing operations.
Sanyo Denki Philippines specializes in manufacturing power supply devices, photovoltaic inverters, AC servo motors and amplifiers, as well as stepping motors. Established in 2000, the company also produces DC cooling fans. The renewable energy (RE) for this initiative will be sourced from a geothermal plant in Negros Oriental, operated by FGen’s subsidiary, Energy Development Corporation.
Through this newly signed agreement, FGen will energize four of Sanyo Denki’s manufacturing facilities, along with its technology center situated at the Subic Technopark within the Subic Bay Special Economic Zone. Furthermore, FGen’s affiliate, Pi Energy Inc., will implement a remote energy monitoring system.
This system will provide real-time insights into power consumption, enabling Sanyo Denki to effectively manage its energy usage and associated costs. Hirokazu Takeuchi, president and chief executive officer of Sanyo Denki Philippines, lauded the partnership for enabling the company to integrate RE into its operations. “We are pleased to start our partnership with First Gen which we believe is the best way to achieve our goal of using more renewable energy in our production, especially in light of our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations,” he stated.
“We also believe it is our obligation to provide our customers with products that are produced using renewable energy,,” Takeuchi added. Carlo Vega, chief engagement officer of FGen, commented that this transition would help address the energy needs of manufacturing companies. “Shifting a 24/7 operation to RE and optimizing power consumption present challenges for manufacturing firms.
We are privileged to assist and advise them on taking the necessary steps toward a more sustainable future for their operations,” Vega said. Currently, FGen boasts approximately 1,651 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity from its 28 clean energy facilities, encompassing solar, wind, hydropower, and geothermal power plants. The company also operates 2,017 MW of natural gas power plants, contributing a total of 3,668 MW to the country’s overall power generation mix.
