Concerns over health risks have emerged after officials flagged heightened bacterial levels in ocean waters near certain Los Angeles County beaches. Specifically, the Santa Monica Pier area in Santa Monica and the vicinity of Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach have been earmarked for public caution due to bacterial measurements exceeding health standards.
The warnings, which currently ask to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in these areas, extend to approximately 100 yards both up and down the coast from the Santa Monica Pier and around the public restrooms at Malibu Lagoon.
