West Edge, which debuted in 2023 on the corner of Olympic and Bundy, is currently home to Gelson’s, Taiwanese tea shop Presotea, Clean Juice, and other retailers.

Miya Miya Chef Yazeen “Yaz” Soudani. Miya Miya was founded by chef Yazeen “Yaz” Soudani as a backyard pop-up in June 2023; its name translates to “very good” in Arabic. Although Soudani was raised in Woodland Hills, he trained in Amman, where he perfected his shawarma.

The pop-up's signature chicken shawarma gets dressed with spices imported from Jordan, wrapped in fresh saj bread, and finished with garlic sauce or served over beef tallow-fried french fries. Ordering shawarma “the Yaz way” adds a spicy garlic sauce and pomegranate molasses. Miya Miya’s first permanent location will feature a 25-foot shawarma bar where guests can watch Soudani prepare the wraps from an outdoor patio.

From now until the restaurant opens, Miya Miya will host a pop-up at West Edge every Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.Joining Miya Miya at West Edge comes the second location of Thai-influenced Japanese kaiseki restaurant KinKan.

Born as an underground home restaurant, KinKan opened its first permanent location in Virgil Village in 2021 on the same block as the ever-busy Courage Bagels. Yimcharoen serves an ever-evolving seasonal menu that features courses such as sashimi, a grilled dish, a simmered dish, and a rice dish. Some menus might feature ingredients like king crab legs, abalone, and A5 wagyu beef.

For lunch, find chirashi bowls with assorted sashimi over sushi rice. The West Edge location of KinKan will seat 15 at a chef’s counter, serving lunch and dinner. Chirashi bento boxes and other dishes will also be available for takeout.

Sandwiched between Santa Monica and Sawtelle, the neighborhood around West Edge has plenty of outstanding restaurants within driving distance, but its immediate vicinity is mainly office parks and retail stores. The arrival of Miya Miya and KinKan will bring two enticing options for residents who live in the development or the surrounding neighborhood, office workers nearby, and Westside Angelenos in search of something new to eat.
