Yahoo Sports’ ‘Draft Live’ crew reacts to the Chicago Bears selecting Missouri WR Luther Burden III in the second round of the draft. Video Transcript Luther Burton III, the wide receiver out of Missouri, is the pick. They can't help.
They can't help themselves. Yeah, it's always another receiver. Um, Burton's interesting.
Um, probably gonna play a lot of slot receiver for them, and man, you know, it's interesting like if he's gonna reach his ceiling, he would probably be like a DJ Moore type of player, which, by the way, DJ Moore is on the Bears' roster. So, um, that's an interesting one. This is, this is clearly a sign that like, yeah, um.
Ben Ben Johnson's got a lot of pull in that room. They go, they go tight end in round one, receiver in round two. they definitely, but they, they were light after DJ Moore and Roma Doonzy, that is for sure.
And, and I mean he brings a vertical element which is gonna be what they kind of need like Roman Dusa can win balls. DJ can actually vertically too. So I mean they're trying to get speed speed I guess across the board as well.
I actually did not think this would be a landing spot for him just because. There's, I don't know, there's some overlap of potential skill set as well of how they're getting used. But what Matt said too is that, I mean, you can tell Ben Johnson's like, I want my toys.
Give me my toys, and I, I mean I go out with that? Oh yeah, I think, well, best for Caleb was offensive line, and I think they kind of address that, but also I like to see them keeping it like it's no more half measures, just keep keeps, keep doing them. Um, no, Burton, though, I, I, I couldn't fully get around him. He is dynamic.
He has some of his highlights are really, really high, like they really are, again, but this is not a player that is reliable, and that's the thing is his tape even indicates that he has to be used in certain ways. So I think that that he's a specific player, actually an interesting winners but because of the guys they have that are more reliable. So maybe it isn't.
Here's what I will say though, um, for Luther Burden specifically. I think he had to go to a place with a good wide receiver coach like he had to be going to a place where it's like that guy is gonna be on him every single day grinding like let's get the best out of your potential. I think Antoine Randallel is on the rise in terms of like some of the best receiver coaching in the league.
The details are really tight for those guys in Detroit and you know they took another kind of enigmatic player in Jami and Williams and really had him right and tight on the details on the field last year. So, um, this is the type of wide receiver coach for Luther Burton that I think he. He had to go to in order to kind of and and I also think, by the way slipping into the second round for him because he was a guy who was thought of as more of a first round pick at one point in the process, this might be the best thing for him you know he posted like a midnight last night, uh, you know, a little shot on the field of him working out like, you know, being motivated.
So if he really does have that chip on his shoulder again, like this is the right spot for him to, to get that coaching. Is there fantasy value for him? I mean, I don't know, man, like, not really. I mean, I think it, I think it just makes the whole situation.
That much messier. Like there was some clarity and like, all right, they've got two dudes and I actually kind of liked that because I think last year they had a little bit too much going on in the passing game and some some politics issues in that wide receiver room between Keenan Allen and DJ Moore and then we took a guy they had some quitting problems in that wide receiver room. So, um, can't have that now like you've got a guy now in Luther Burton who might be nipping at some some heels there, but man, I, I think from a target perspective it's tough to really project.
A lot for Luther Burton. So from, I think this is good for him maybe long term to develop, but year one impact, I'm not so sure. I'm not sure if fans are positive.
They love it either. In fact, 69% right now of overall fans are OK with it. 59% of Bears fans.
OK, so kind of a lower so I like, I don't know. I don't know why fans get so upset in the second round. It's like take a flyer on a player in the second round doesn't bother me, but CMAC, it feels like the fans maybe don't, don't get it 100%.
I, I don't, I don't really get it..
