Motorists on the M42 have been alerted to upcoming slip road closures and diversions for parts of next week. National Highways has cautioned drivers in the Midlands they will need to follow a diversion route as safety and capacity enhancements are carried out on the busy stretch of motorway near Birmingham Airport. The slip lane closure will occur near the Birmingham Airport M42 exit, but it is anticipated that disruption near BHX will be minimal.
Drivers have been reminded that they can use a new airport road which opened in December last year. The closures will take place overnight and will affect drivers from Solihull , Birmingham, Coventry and beyond. As part of the slip road closures, motorists have been advised to use the new A4545 to access the A45 westbound and Birmingham Airport.

Traffic management is being removed to restore two lanes on the entry to the motorway. Diversions will be signposted, directing drivers to join the M42 southbound, exit at junction 5 and then return northbound.
Northbound exit slip road closures will occur on Wednesday 30 April, Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May, reports Birmingham Live . National Highways are removing the free flow link from the northbound M42 junction 6 exit to the A45 westbound, one lane of the northbound exit slip road and a section of lane 1 on the junction 6 roundabout. For the safe installation of traffic management, diversions have been put in place.
Motorists are advised to use the new A4545 as an alternative to the free flow link for accessing the A45 westbound and Birmingham Airport. National Highways has also confirmed that the M42 will remain open as a diversion route for traffic affected by the HS2 closure of the A46 near Coventry. Additionally, road authorities have published a diversion map for motorists to follow.
