Have you visited the M6 service station that doubles as a farm shop and offers “high-quality food”? When driving along the motorway, it’s a common thing to make a stop at a service station but few are as exciting as this one. Usually, a service station has a few restaurants, including fast food options, toilet facilities and maybe even a cash point. If you’re heading up to Cumbria or on your way back down to Lancashire, Tebay services are not to be missed since they’re so highly praised by motorists.

Tebay Services was opened in 1972 by John and Barbara Dunning “after the M6 motorway was built through their farm.” Lamb, Herdwick mutton and native-breed beef are still farmed there today, with the farm surrounding the service station.
Sharing more about its farm shop, it added: “Our Farmshop brings together food and lifestyle products crafted with skill and integrity. We make them ourselves and source them from dedicated makers who use real ingredients and authentic techniques. “Our buyers seek out the most exceptional bakers, brewers, piemakers, potters, cheesemakers, coffee roasters and soap makers from our locality and beyond.
” Its kitchen ingredients are locally sourced: “Many of our local producers have supplied us for years. Wild & Fruitful (above) makes our seasonal fruit compotes – try them on our porridge and yoghurt granola pots. “We’re also proud to work with More? The Artisan Bakery near Kendal.
Their soft sourdough milk rolls, delivered fresh each day, make our burgers and breakfast rolls irresistible.” The butchers offer “prime joints” for different meals: “Our skilled team of whole-animal butchers makes use of every part of each animal. We roast the prime joints for our Sunday lunches and braise the slow-cooking cuts to fill our handmade pies.
“And our breakfasts wouldn’t be our breakfasts without our butchers’ own-recipe Cumberland sausages, made with Cumbrian pork.” From 23,000 reviews on Google, Tebay Services (Southbound) has a 4.3 rating while is Northbound page has a slightly higher rating of 4.

It's so much more than your average pit stop. “It's practically a lovely farm shop, bursting with an incredible selection of fresh, local produce.
The food options were fantastic, and I was particularly impressed by the range of local beers. “The fact that they have a butcher on site is a huge plus, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Everything felt very high-quality and well-sourced.
“And don't even get me started on the gelato! It was incredibly tasty, and a perfect treat. I wholeheartedly recommend this service station; it's a real gem!” Recommended reading: 'Dangerous' motorway that goes through Lancashire named among worst in the UK 3 of the best glamping and luxury farm stays in the Ribble Valley - as seen on TV Farm expansion to sell milkshakes and meat approved by council Another commented: “Both sides of the motorway, Tebay, are equally good. Much better than your usual motorway stop-offs and not expensive.
I loved the fish and chips, proper 'fish shop' fish, not the frozen stuff. Great choice of food and cakes. “And a lovely view to go with it.
We watched the ducks and heron on the pond outside while we ate.” Have you visited this service station on the M6? Let us know in the comments..
