The Shrimpers boss held a well-attended darts evening at the Chalkwell Park Rooms. And it was the Blues players’ side – which included Nick Hayes, Jack Bridge, Harry Taylor and Oli Coker – who triumphed. Maher’s side which consisted of Mark Gower, Mark Bentley and Darren Currie were narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals.
But Maher was still able to enjoy the evening! “It’s been brilliant and a lot of effort from everyone has gone into making it happen,” said the Blues boss. “The turn out was really good and we’re thankful to everyone who came along.” Attention will now turn towards Maher’s testimonial match which takes place at Roots Hall on Friday May 16.
And tickets will soon be on sale for the game which will see a Blues side packed full of Maher’s former team-mates taking on a Premier League All Stars side. “Tickets will be on sale very, very soon,” confirmed Maher. “We will be announcing who will be playing for the Southend team and the Premier League All Stars team as well so there’s some exciting stuff to come.
