A busy train station is set to close for a day this weekend (Sunday, April 27) in order for a new platform to be installed. Salford Crescent opened in 1987, and customer numbers have increased year-on-year, with the station handling almost 1.2 million entries and exits in 2022/23, making it one of the busiest stations in Greater Manchester.

Due to the increase, Network Rail says the existing platform can no longer cope with the increasing number of customers using it, so a third platform is being built.
