Makeover: A fresh look for a busy grandmother

My client Martha is a busy grandmother who is approaching 70 and wants a more updated and relevant look to kick off the next chapter in her life. Martha has straight, medium texture hair. She struggles with building volume as it falls flat and wants a haircut that is easy to style and that looks soft and feminine.

My goal was to create a style that would enhance and uplift her facial features. I cleansed her hair with Oribe Signature Shampoo and Conditioner, then lightly misted it with KMS Moist Repair Leave-in Conditioner to prime and repair the hair. I started by eliminating length at the nape area, creating a soft and feminine graduated shape.



I then used diagonal back sectioning to eliminate length through the sides of her hair while maintaining a bit of length for style versatility. I added soft layers through the top of her hair for volume and customized the fringe for an easy side-sweeping silhouette. I went back in with a razor, once her hair was dry, to further customize her cut and to create shaggy, undone finish.

To complete the style, I sprayed KMS Dry Wax , a lightweight spray wax for definition. Makeup: Martha has stunning blue eyes and I wanted to enhance them. I applied a metallic chocolate-brown shadow stick onto her eyelids and blended into her crease area.

I mirrored that colour along her lower lash line and rimmed her waterline with brown waterproof eyeliner. I applied mineralizing cream to give her complexion a soft glow, then strategically brightened her complexion using a full coverage concealer. I contoured her face with bronzing powder dusted her cheeks with a hint of blush.

I finished the look with a neutral lip colour.
