A Chhattisgarh man, who feared being abandoned by his tenth wife, just like the nine before her, beat her to death after accusing her of stealing food and clothing from a wedding ceremony the duo attended.

In a chilling case from Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, a 38-year-old man with a history of abusive marriages has been arrested for allegedly murdering his tenth wife following a dispute over theft. The accused, Dhula Ram of Sulesa village, is said to have suspected his wife, Basanti Bai, of stealing "rice, cooking oil, and clothing from a wedding", according to police. Following a heated altercation in the Pandrapath area of Bagicha, he allegedly beat her to death and dumped the body in a nearby forest, concealing it under dry leaves.

Police said the incident remained hidden until villagers detected a foul smell five days later near a drain in the forest. Upon inspection, a "severely decomposed and partially concealed" body was found, with the face "disfigured beyond recognition", a TOI report said. Ram, who had taken his wife to a local wedding before the killing, reportedly became fearful that she would leave him like his previous partners.

"Dhula Ram had grown increasingly suspicious and paranoid in his current marriage, fearing abandonment once again," officers said. "This, compounded by the alleged theft, appears to have triggered the fatal assault." Investigators also revealed a disturbing pattern in Ram's personal life — nine of his previous wives had left him citing "violent and abusive behaviour".
