A 51-YEAR-OLD man was arrested during the service of a search warrant in Barangay Dela Rama-Legaspi, City Proper District, Iloilo City, around 5 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, for illegal possession of a firearm.
Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo) Director Police Colonel Kim Legada said; “Orders have already been issued to all unit commanders to step up operations against loose firearms, especially during this election period. We cannot allow these weapons to be used in any criminal activity. Our efforts will be relentless.
” Legada advised unlicensed firearm owners to coordinate with local police stations to surrender or deposit them, as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban remains in effect. Police Lieutenant Romelo Tabuyoc, officer-in-charge of Iloilo City Police Station 1, led the operation with support from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. The suspect, known by the alias Rod, is a resident of Barangay Dela Rama-Legaspi.
He was arrested after authorities recovered one unit of caliber .45 Colt pistol and one magazine loaded with five live rounds of ammunition from his possession. The suspect is currently under police custody and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013.
