RAWALPINDI - An additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) here on Tuesday handed down death sentence to a man for shooting his friend dead in the limits of Taxila police in 2022. ADSJ Basit Aleem convicted Ghulab Sher for killing his friend Muhammad Atif and handed him down death sentence. The court also imposed Rs1 million on the convict as damages to be paid to the legal heirs of the deceased.
Riaz Abdul Rehman, father of the deceased Atif, lodged the murder FIR with Taxila police on May 10, 2022 against Ghulab Sher and his brother Ali Sher, residents of Dir. He told the police that he is a rickshaw driver and lives in Wahdat Colony. On the fateful day, he along with his 20-year-old son was returning from Taxila bazaar at about 9:30pm when Ghulab and his brother stopped them near nursery of the forest department by standing their bike in front of their rickshaw.
The complaint further said that Gulab got Atif out of the rickshaw and shot him thrice and both the brother fled from the scene. He said he took his wounded son to Civil Hospital Taxila but he died on the way to the hospital. Explaining the motive behind the murder, Riaz had told the police that Atif and Gulab were friends.
However, Atif severed the ties with him as Gulab started stalking him. He told me that Gulab was not a good man. Riaz said he tried to dissuade Gulab from pursuing his son.
This infuriated Gulab, who stabbed and wounded Riaz in August 2021. Riaz said that he got the FIR registered against Gulab. He told the police that the old enmity was the reason that Gulab shot his son dead. Tags: death sentence killing.
