Man missing in Lagos after alleged same-sex gathering sparks family, community backlash

A 51-year-old man, Adekunle I. Olaoye, has been declared missing by his family and local community in Lagos following a controversial incident involving alleged same-sex activity.The incident reportedly occurred on 8 September 2021 during a private gathering held at Mr Olaoye’s residence.

According to sources, the event was attended by several young men and is believed to have been organised by a local group informally described as a “gay circle.”Witnesses allege that the party was disrupted by a combined team of law enforcement officers and neighbourhood security personnel, who acted on a tip-off regarding the nature of the gathering.In the aftermath of the raid, tensions rose sharply within Mr Olaoye’s family and the broader community.



Relatives, citing deep-rooted religious convictions, are said to have expressed profound disappointment and made a public decision to sever ties with him. Members of the community also criticised the incident, describing it as shameful and contrary to shared values.Mr Olaoye has not been seen since the incident, and his current location remains unknown.
