The United fans haven't held back in their assessment of the defender and were not impressed

Manchester United pulled off their biggest win of the season so far as they came from behind to beat Lyon 5-4 in the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night, despite trailing by two goals with just 10 minutes left in the contest. After initially storming out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, the Red Devils were pegged back after the interval and in extra time, found themselves losing 4-2 to a Lyon side with just 10-men. Goals from Bruno Fernandes , Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire in the last 10 minutes of extra time flipped the entire contest on its head, though, and Ruben Amorim's men came out with a 5-4 victory and advanced to the semi-finals 7-6 on aggregate.

It was a superb evening for a club starved of occasions like it recently. Several players impressed throughout, with Rio Ferdinand heaping praise on Alejandro Garnacho after and United fans celebrating Maguire online . Not everyone stood out for the right reasons, though, and the Old Trafford faithful haven't held back in their assessment of Luke Shaw after he was subbed into the game at half-time.

Manchester United dramatically secured their place in the Europa League semi-finals after defeating Lyon 7-6 on aggregate on Thursday evening. Luke Shaw Struggled Against Lyon It's been a tough season so far for Shaw. The full-back has been limited to just a handful of appearances due to a series of injuries and was recently on the shelf for four months before making his return against Newcastle United at the weekend.

He played just 12 minutes against the Magpies in a 4-1 loss, but was brought on at half-time in the Lyon game and given an extended run on the pitch. It didn't go to plan, though, and he struggled against the Ligue 1 side. Shaw struggled to keep up with the Lyon forwards and eventually gave away a penalty in extra-time after making a clumsy challenge on Malick Fofana.

The Red Devils ultimately turned things around, but that didn't stop the club's fans offering their damning assessments of the left-back after the fact on social media. One fan took to X (Twitter) and slammed Shaw's performance, saying: "The Luke Shaw substitution has been absolutely disastrous. What a clumsy, ridiculous challenge.

4-2 down from 2-0 up. 10 men Lyon with 2 goals against 11 men Manchester United," while another called out the preferential treatment the Englishman has received from United supporters. They posted: "This fanbase gives Luke Shaw so much grace and I don’t know why.

He’s so unreliable these days." A third supporter was straight to the point and stated: "Luke Shaw, you make me sick to my stomach." Another fan couldn't believe his performance under the circumstances, saying: "Luke Shaw.

You get paid full wages to play a handful of games and you do that when we need you? I’m lost for words...

" Finally, a fifth fan highlighted how little time it took for Shaw to make a mistake following his comeback, posting: "Luke Shaw returned and cost us a goal immediately." It wasn't just the United fans who weren't impressed with Shaw either. The French media slammed the defender after the game and labelled his performance 'catastrophic' for the club.

Yikes..
