Manchester United could soon welcome back one of their most reliable performers.

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has proved Ruben Amorim wrong and recovered in time for the final few games of the season, according to reports. The Ivorian has been sidelined with an ankle injury since February but he is poised to return to training, and he could yet play a pivotal role in an important part of the campaign. United have little left to fight for in the Premier League .

Sitting 14th with only 10 wins in 33 games, they stand no chance of qualifying for Europe via the traditional route, and it is mathematically impossible for them to be relegated. But they could return to the Champions League by winning the Europa League , and a semi-final double header against Athletic Club is just around the corner. Amorim will need all hands on deck to overcome the high-flying Basque side, who have only lost five La Liga games all season.

And he could have Amad to call upon, as Fabrizio Romano claims the 22-year-old will be back in training next week after recovering in 'record time'. Amad's season was practically declared over by Amorim back in February, when the manager said: "I think so. Sometimes things happen, and seasons where everything happens at the same time.

" The youngster is still United's second-top-scorer and assister in the Premier League, behind Bruno Fernandes , despite missing more than two months of action. He has also chipped in with two goals during their Europa League campaign. Amorim shed light on Amad's recovery process before the goalless draw with Manchester City earlier this month.

He told MUTV: "He’s doing quite well. We hope to have him before the season is finished. We'll see, but he's anxious to play, so we are waiting for him.

" United are without a handful of key players ahead of a period which could ultimately define their campaign. Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez have no hope of returning before the summer due to hamstring and cruciate ligament injuries respectively. But Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven are fighting to be back in time for the final push, and both could slot straight into Amorim's back-line.

United fielded Noussair Mazraoui, Victor Lindelof and debutant Tyler Fredricson in an unfamiliar defence for the 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday. Pablo Sarabia's free-kick made it two Premier League defeats on the spin, three in their last four games, and four league matches without a win as the Red Devils place more and more focus on their European ambitions..
