Manchester United announce final pre-season fixture, David de Gea set for Old Trafford return

Manchester United have announced the final friendly match of pre-season when they take on Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday, 9 August.Ruben Amorim will have an intense schedule this summer as Manchester United prepare for his first full season at the club.After becoming United’s head coach in November, Amorim took charge of a team that had endured a disastrous start to the 2024/25 season.

The Serie A outfit will travel to Old Trafford on Saturday, 9 August, and the match will kick-off at 12:45 BST.That means United will have five fixtures to play as they prepare for the new season.The winners of United vs Fiorentina will be crowned champions of the Snapdragon Cup.

Speaking about the friendly against Fiorentina, United’s technical director Jason Wilcox told ManUtd.com: “This final pre-season fixture is key to our preparations for the 2025/26 campaign – it will ensure the players have all had competitive game-time, against top opposition, in different environments, including Old Trafford, before the Premier League resumes.“We have worked closely with Ruben [Amorim] and his coaching staff to put together a schedule of exciting and competitive fixtures that create the best conditions for the team to prepare.

“This includes utilising some of the leading sporting facilities in the US, playing against strong opponents, and creating opportunities for as many fans as possible to see the team live in Sweden, the US, and, with this final fixture, back home at the Theatre of Dreams.”The two teams last met in the Champions League group stages back in 1999/2000. Fiorentina won the first match 2-0, before United recorded a victory at Old Trafford, winning 3-1 following goals from Andy Cole, Roy Keane and Dwight Yorke.
