Manchester United have agreed to send midfielder Dan Gore back to Rotherham for the final two matches of the season. The 20-year-old joined the League One club on loan in the January transfer window and impressed on his debut against champions Birmingham. However, he suffered a foot injury during training and was subsequently sidelined for the best part of three months.

Gore trained with the United first-team at Carrington on Wednesday and will now return to Rotherham for their final two matches of the season. The Millers have nothing to play for in those matches against Stevenage and Peterborough, so it is hoped Gore will get the opportunity to make his return. The talented midfielder has endured an unfortunate injury record in his short senior playing career and could be sold permanently this summer.

Gore also picked up an injury during his first game on loan with Port Vale last season and then suffered a freak shoulder injury last summer that saw him miss the pre-season schedule. He captained the U21s before he joined Rotherham on a six-month loan in January and made his senior United debut under Erik ten Hag in October 2023. He partnered Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield when United won the Youth Cup in 2022 and if sold this summer would be classified as pure profit from a financial perspective.

Speaking earlier in the month, new Rotherham manager Matt Hamshaw said he looked forward to Gore's return from injury. “Dan is doing rehab at Man United at the minute,” he said. “He should be coming back within the next week and a half to two weeks.

” Taking to social media after he returned to parent club United in February, Gore said he was "absolutely gutted" to have suffered another injury setback. “Having loved the start to my time here and been made to feel so welcome by everyone at the club, I am absolutely gutted to have picked up an injury," he said. “Everyone who knows me knows that I would play through any pain if I physically could, but unfortunately, I need to take a few weeks out.

I’ll be giving everything to get back as soon as possible to contribute to the team and be able to play in front of the fans again.” READ NEXT: Manchester United confirmed training squad ahead of Bournemouth fixture as six academy stars involved.
