Mark Wright ‘truly heartbroken’ to pull out of London Marathon in emotional statement

An injury has forced Mark Wright to pull out of Sunday’s London Marathon (Picture: Instagram/@wrighty_)Mark Wright is ‘heartbroken’ to announce that he has been forced to pull out of Sunday’s London Marathon.The TCS London Marathon will take place in the capital city on Sunday April 29, with the route starting in Greenwich, winding around the River Thames, before finishing at The Mall, the iconic stretch of road leading to Buckingham Palace. However the 38-year-old Towie star will not be joining the 56,000 runners at this year’s city-wide event, which will bring central London to a standstill.

Announcing he is ‘truly heartbroken’ not to be running on Sunday, Mark explained how he’s torn his soleus muscle in his calf. ‘I tore my soleus,’ he began in a video posted on social media. ‘It was quite mild at first and I thought it would be alright.

So gutted, because if you know how hard it is to train for a marathon you’ll understand,’ he said. Explaining the gruelling training programme, he said: ‘It’s challenging, daunting. But you do it for such a good reason and that is to do the London Marathon.

I am truly heartbroken because I love doing it so much and I have to wait another year if I want to do it again.’ While Mark is clearly upset at the turn of events, he’s still going to be there on Sunday to DJ in Canary Wharf.

Drag Race UK star Kitty Scott-Claus will run in memory of The Vivienne, real name was James Lee Williams, who died on January 5 at the age of 32.The Heart radio presenter, who just welcomed his first child Palma Elizabeth Wright with wife Michelle Keegan, also shared a picture capturing the moment the news was broken to him he would not be able to run the 26 miles. On 24 May, 2015, they married.In a recent chat with Metro about how fatherhood and marathon prep are going a month after welcoming his daughter, Mark hinted his training wasn’t going well.

The TV star, who was teamed up with GetPRO to help him prepare for the big day, said: ‘It’s not great this year.‘I started late, I had an injury, and then had a baby, so obviously that took a lot of time. Last time I ran the marathon I was militant, so it’s just not been as good.

’Sunday’s route takes in some of London’s most iconic landmarks including a run over Tower Bridge through to the Canary Wharf skyscrapers, and west on the northern bank of the Thames Path past the Tower of London and Big Ben – with views of the London Eye on the Southbank – before striding through Whitehall for the final push. The race is the world’s largest annual one-day fundraising event, with more than £1.3bn raised since its 1981 beginnings.

The race will kick off at around 8.50am when the Elite Wheelchairs class sets off.Elite Women will follow at 9.

05am, with Elite Men at 9.35am.The mass event will then open for all other racers to set off between 9.
