Now, your individual performance plays a bigger role, and this is why you may find ranking up much faster in the new season.
The ranking system sparked some controversy, prompting NetEase to make adjustments. Several heroes were underperforming during the first two weeks of the season, but that issue has now been addressed. While explaining the performance rating, the developers of Marvel Rivals also shared how it’s calculated.
How is the ranked rating calculated in Marvel Rivals?NetEase has shed some light on the rating calculation in Marvel Rivals' competitive play. There have been lots of theories about the exact formula, with most players believing that it is heavily influenced by kills and damage. However, this is not quite accurate, as each hero's performance is calculated differently.
In a recent blog post, the game developer revealed that "hero performance rating is calculated based on the average key combat data for that hero at the player's current rank." This means that the more the combat data exceeds the baseline for a specific rank, the more points the player will get in a loss. Naturally, this also means that players will lose fewer points in losses while exceeding the baseline.

This means that, even if you use a hero for only a minute, you can still exceed the baseline and improve your performance rating.
The Marvel Rivals devs likely won’t ever disclose the exact formula behind the rating calculation. Still, it’s clear that every hero has the potential to climb the ranks. Although the system is far from perfect, NetEase plans to keep refining it to ensure a fair experience for all players.
