Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reaffirmed her government’s commitment to promoting tourism as a full-fledged industry in Punjab. She expressed these views while addressing a 25-member delegation from the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), comprising permanent representatives from the CMOs of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Iran, and Pakistan. The delegation was led by ECO Secretary-General Asad Majeed Khan.

Welcoming the delegation to Lahore, CM Maryam stated that Punjab is fully prepared to host both domestic and international tourists. “We are upgrading tourist destinations not only in Lahore but across the entire province,” she said, emphasizing that all necessary facilities would be provided to enhance the visitor experience. She thanked Turkmenistan for supporting Lahore’s nomination as the ECO Capital and spoke passionately about her deep admiration for the city.



“Lahore is not just a city; it is a living museum of history that reflects a unique blend of ancient and modern culture,” she said, highlighting its heritage sites, gardens, and the hospitality of its people. She informed the delegates that Punjab is fast emerging as a hub for business, technology, services, and tourism, with strong potential in agriculture, education, and industry.

She added that a solid foundation has been laid to attract foreign investment in these sectors. On the occasion, ECO Secretary-General Asad Majeed Khan noted that Pakistan joined ECO in 1992 during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure and praised the provincial government’s efforts under CM Maryam’s leadership to promote tourism and cultural heritage. The ECO delegation also presented CM Maryam with a piece of calligraphy and commemorative souvenirs in appreciation of her efforts.
