Two contestants on this year's series of Race Across the World are sisters from Sussex. Elizabeth, 33, and younger sister Letitia, 26, and from West Worthing and Lancing are racing four other teams from China to India in the fifth series of the reality show, which launched on BBC1 on Wednesday. The sisters say they think "we're going to have an advantage because we're well-travelled in different parts of the world - we just come together and it's a mighty force".
On the first episode, aired on April 23, Letitia, who lived in China for six months, used her mandarin to ask for directions to Beijing Airport. READ MORE: Driver crashes into police cars triggering pursuit The gung-ho pair earned their bed and board one night picking white pomegranates at a family farm in the rural outskirts of Bengbu. To reach the checkpoint at the end of the episode, Letitia and Elizabeth had to ascend into the mountains via cable car.
Despite getting on the wrong cable car, the sisters still reached the checkpoint first, before all the other contestants. The programme follows pairs of competitors racing around the world to be the first to reach the final destination. The competitors cannot fly but are each given an amount of money equivalent to the price of a one-way plane ticket to the final destination, which they can use to travel by land or by sea.
