A meeting to discuss a controversial warehouse project in North Whitehall Township was abruptly canceled Wednesday evening. The township planning commission was scheduled to meet at Lehigh Carbon Community College to discuss the proposed Nexus 78 warehouse near the intersection of Route 309 and Orefield Road. Developer Trammell Crow Co.
wants to build a 501,405-square-foot building that is 50 feet high. A note posted on the township’s website said: “The Planning Commission meeting for tonight April 30, 2025 has been canceled at the request of the developer. This agenda item will be rescheduled for a future date.
” Members of the North Whitehall Taxpayers for Smart Growth were at LCCC for the meeting. Many showed up to see a “meeting canceled” sign on the door of the Lisa Jane Scheller Community Services Center, where the meeting was to be held. Group member Angelo Caggiano said it wasn’t the first time the meeting has been called off.
“We’re disappointed,” he said. Planning commission members expressed skepticism about the project at January’s meeting, citing traffic, noise and pollution as their top concerns. Traffic studies from the developer indicated that 150 trucks could enter and exit the facility within a 24-hour period.
The project was also met with doubt from members of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission when it reviewed it in May 2024 . The LVPC said its distance from Route 22 and Interstate 78 was a major concern..
