The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) assured its customers Tuesday of “stable, reliable, and continuous” electricity services throughout the Holy Week, as it said its business centers will be closed in observance of the Easter Triduum. In an advisory, the Pangilinan-led firm said its business centers will be closed from April 17, Maundy Thursday, until April 20, Easter Sunday, but customers can still reach the company through its mobile application, official media pages, and its hotlines.

Business center operations will resume on Monday, April 21. Malacañang earlier declared April 17, Maundy Thursday, and April 18, Good Friday, as regular holidays, and April 19, Black Saturday, as a special non-working day: “We join the nation in observing a solemn and safe Holy Week. As a 24/7 service provider, we assure our customers that our crews are fully prepared to respond to any power-related concerns that may arise,” Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications Joe Zaldarriaga said.

On Monday, Meralco also called on the public to unplug unused appliances especially for those going away for several days, refrain from using “octopus connections,” avoid placing and running electrical cords under rugs or carpets, keep electrical wires organized, and keep electrical equipment and devices away from showers, sinks, and tubs. Meralco constructs, operates, and maintains electric distribution systems in the cities and municipalities of Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal, as well as certain areas in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, and Quezon. The firm counts as subsidiaries and associates Vantage Energy Solutions and Management Inc.
