Meta AI has been available through WhatsApp and other apps till date but now you get a standalone app like ChatGPT and Gemini on mobile. Meta AI now gets a standalone app on mobile devices as the company looks to go beyond its WhatsApp and Facebook user base to grow its AI market. The first version of Meta AI works like any other AI chatbot out there, giving you assistance with text prompts or voice commands.
Bringing this app also means Meta has a better control over its actual AI consumer and caters to their needs in a more personalised way. Meta AI App: Why Now? The Meta AI app is powered by the new Llama 4 AI model from the company, and it claims the new platform will most likely be at the forefront of its AI ambitions in the next few years. This means, Meta AI finally gets a voice, something that we have been waiting to see on WhatsApp or Instagram, on the new standalone app.
But that’s not all, like the other AI platforms from OpenAI and Google, “the app integrates with other Meta AI features like image generation and editing, which can now all be done through a voice or text conversation with your AI assistant," Meta explains in a post. Meta AI gives the company a more holistic approach to its AI strategy that can now easily spread through different products. And yes, the Ray Ban smart glasses will not be integrated with the Llama 4-powered Meta AI app in select countries for now.
The voice feature on Meta AI will have multiple options just like Siri, ChatGPT and Gemini Live. It also gets a full-duplex mode in the experimental phase that does not access your recent information or memory. You even have a toggle switch to make sure Meta AI voice does not start/respond on its own.
These features are currently available in the US, Canada, and Australia among others for now. The True Meta Connect Meta owns some of the biggest social media platforms and that seems to be a big part of the new AI push. It will use aspects like your travel preferences, food and cafes, to personalise the results and seek information from your profiles (if you give the permission).
There is the obvious Facebook–Instagram link that might engage you in a new way to connect with other friends through a Discover Feed which makes it effectively look like a regular social feed. And yes, the Meta AI web version is also being optimised with the new features and support for the big desktop screens. It is testing a document editor, using AI to generate files with images and text and importing documents to help the AI assistant analyse and give inputs.
